Team Blend is a group of high school physics students from Da Vinci Charter Academy in Davis, CA. Our name stems from last year's project (a pedal powered blender) and our goals of blending cultures, blending technologies, and blending ways of creating renewable energy. 

Team Blend is a way to get students involved in international service-learning and focuses on helping communities in developing nations create solutions to local problems through the use of culturally appropriate STEM applications (STEM = Science Technology Engineering and Math). 

This year we are designing and building a pedal powered electrical generator for use in the rural village of Sabana Grande, Nicaragua. This summer, in collaboration with Grupo Fenix and Peregrine International, we will travel to Sabana Grande, where we will build these pedal generators in collaboration with 2 different groups - the "Solar Women of Totogalpa" and the "Young Scientists Pedaling to the Future". 

We will also participate in workshops to learn about the ways in which the community already makes use of renewable energy as well as teach science lessons to groups of elementary school children. We hope to help promote the use of renewable resources and raise awareness of the many practical applications of alternative energy, all the while encouraging students everywhere to reach out to communities across the globe.
